Feelings of discontent

I'm not happy with being a warlock these days. I don't like the change to destruction. If I had wanted to play with fire, I would have rolled a mage. Also, I'm not happy with the new affliction spec. The spell rotation is just wonkie and dps is low compared to destruction. I have found in my top tier guild, that what matters from a warlock is the bottom line, d.p.s. Yes, affliction adds utility. Yes, affliction does pretty good damage on it's own. Although my guild will construct a raid for synergy and needs on a per boss basis, they bring in the hardest hitters and affliction just isn't going to be that. I can discuss numbers but in the end, I'm just feeling discontent with my class at this moment. Anyone else out there in the same place I am?

Affliction will be fine once you get to level 80.... that's what it's tuned for. Destro allowing warlocks to out-mage all the mages was never blizz's intention, and they've stated that repeatedly. Shadowbolt spam is on its way out, like it or not.

Unfortunately with the raid HP nerf, things don't last long enough for affliction to be meaningful at lvl 70.....

Kitty druids are in much the same shoes that you are - they're tuned for lvl 80, and so are comparatively weak dps right now. (No Savage roar skill being the main problem)

I understand. I'm just feeling the burnout and have looked at taking an alt to 80 first and changing main classes. You are definitely right in that I'm not getting any real affliction practice at level 70. Bosses stand up and immediately fall over. It's a joke.

We ran Kara and ZA last night with alts in under 3 hours total. We had minimal gear and blasted through the places.

I raided as a Warlock for about 2 years and felt the burnout as well. I started raided as a Moonkin.. then an Elemental Shaman.. then tried Enhancement raiding.. then a Mage.. then a Shadowpriest.. but I couldn't find that comfort zone that I did with the Warlock class.

The DPS is a bit low all around at the moment but from what I hear, groups in Naxx on the beta have said that Affliction is the highest DPS spec for Warlocks.

Maybe get to 80 and see for yourself before leaving a class behind that you put so much time in to?

So, from what I understand, as a lvl 70 raiding lock it's best to go for a destruction build, and at lvl 80 go for affliction?

I don't really like to play a fire destro lock either (doing this now after the 3.0.2 patch). Before I was shadow destro and I had much higher burst dps with those shadowbolt spams. And when I just got lvl 70 and was doing kara with low lvl gear, I was an affliction lock but had much more fun playing the affl build.

Which build do you guys suggest for highest raiding dps with this gear: http://be.imba.hu/?zone=EU&realm=Ravenholdt&character=Felock

Jeroen, I'd recommend affliction until you get your crit rating up to 20% which should be soon. Some folks do make the switch to destruction at your level, but I don't recommend it since 3.0.2. Sorry for the late response. Your response got sent to my spam folder and I didn't see it until today.

Thank you for the response, and np about the spam-thingy :p

Ill give the affliction build a try again. Ill post back here what my findings are. Btw, do you think I should go full affl, or just untill Unstable affliction and put some points in demo or something.
